High school students can check out these tips on how to choose a bachelor's degree major at college!

Are you not sure what you want to study in college after earning your high school diploma? There are hundreds of bachelor’s degree options for undergraduate students. It can be quite difficult to choose a major when there are so many options. Let’s talk about a couple of tips you can use to help you narrow down your top choices.

Reflect on what captures your interest.

Think about who you are and what it is that you love. Consider reflecting on past experiences—jobs that you’ve done, subjects you’ve loved studying—to think about what you are passionate about.

Think about your beliefs and core values.

Do you enjoy helping people? Do you like solving problems? Let answers to these questions guide your decision.

Consider taking introductory courses.

If you enter your freshmen year with an undeclared major, consider taking a number of introductory level courses so that you can see if you are interested in the general topic.

Ask for advice from advisers and those who know you well.

Friends and professors can be great allies. See if you can seek help in creating a roadmap based on your values and interests.

Check degree requirements.

Once you’ve narrowed down the list to a few majors, you can look into degree requirements, syllabi and relevant courses for each one. This will give you an idea of the kinds of topics you will learn.

Reach out to faculty and speak with department heads.

Nobody knows better about the major that you are considering than the professors who teach these classes. They can help you figure out if the major is a good fit for you.
